Oh I know these days you can’t get away with voting multiple times, but it’s always worth a try. I think Wilma is planning to go with our Mistress to vote. She’s never been to a polling station before and for a number of reasons our Mistress thought it would be a good idea. She’s already been telling Wilma about the suffragettes and all they did to secure the vote for women in this country. She’s told Wilma about the Pet Dogs Democratic Party too and my failed attempts to secure the vote for dogs. I’ve semi-retired from politics now, but maybe it’s something Wilma would like to take on as she gets older.
Our Mistress considers her right to vote so important and such a privilege that she cannot actually put her cross on the ballot paper without finding herself in tears. There are few things more important to her than the liberties and freedoms afforded to her by living in a democracy where she has equal rights.
The other reason it’s interesting for Wilma to go is that she is actually a Swiss national and not English at all, but we’re keeping quiet about that.
You already know how important our Mistress thinks today’s vote is, both for humans and for the development of our breed here in the UK. She cares passionately about the opportunities that membership of the EU brings and will not be a happy person tomorrow if things have gone wrong. She did wonder what would happen if those who want to stay in Europe all turned up on the doorstep of France, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium tomorrow saying ‘We’ve come to stay’. There have been some lovely videos of people around Europe expressing their sentiment of wanting Great Britain to remain. We just hope that the rest of Great Britain has been listening!
