Alfie’s Mistress

Today is a very special day and Alfie is putting his paws up. Three of us are writing sections for today’s blog and in a very unusual step this first section is being written by a human. I don’t think I’ve written any for Alfie before, but I’m the one he refers to as his Alfie and his MistressMistress. Today is Alfie’s 10th birthday and we wanted to mark that special day by giving our thoughts on what he means to us.

When I was a child I daydreamed of having a dog. I imagined a perfect companion who would share everything. A dog I could wrap me arms around in good times and in bad and who would be my soul-mate. I dreamed of the sort of relationship with a dog that is one in a million, a rare and special bond that you might see in the movies but doesn’t often happen in real life. I was forty when Alfie came into my life and for the last ten years I’ve had everything I ever dreamed of and more. He is my best friend, my soul-mate, my constant companion. If we are separated for long we both become miserable. I need him near my side as much as he needs me.

Today is a very special birthday for Alfie and his remaining sisters and brother. I hope they all have a wonderful day and will do what I can to make it special for him in thanks for all the special days he gives me. I can only hope that as the pups go to their homes next week (and Ari will update you on them later in the blog) that they will bring their humans as much pleasure as Alfie has given to me and to the rest of our family.

Please use the comments to send Alfie your birthday wishes. He loves hearing from you all.

Shadow

I’m not much of a writer as the others will tell you, so I’ll keep it short. Happy birthday

Alfie.

Alfie has been part of my life since I was eight weeks old. He’s always been the big strong one that makes me feel safe. I know I’m the pack leader and he’d never doubt that, but even I get scared and when I do it’s Alfie I turn to. He never turns me away, but just accepts I need to be near him once in a while.

Sharing our Mistress

I’m the one who runs rings round Alfie and annoys the life out of him. He’s always been part of my life and I love him really. Happy birthday, Alfie. I can pounce on him and be mean to him and he’s never mean back. I steal his food and his chews and he never complains. There is only one thing he’ll fight for and that is his spot at our Mistress’s side, but if I’m nice he will share it just a little bit. He’s a real gentleman and I probably abuse that. (Our Mistress has just said I should replace probably with definitely!). He’s the best and I promise to be nice today as my birthday treat to him.

And now back to the pups.

They are amazing. They went to bed at 10.30 last night and didn’t stir until our Mistress went to check on them on 6.00 this morning. And I mean did not stir! They actually slept through. They hadn’t needed the toilet, they hadn’t eaten, they hadn’t played. Of course by then they were all ready for all three, but if they keep going like that life will be very easy. I guess they will feel the separation from their brother and sisters when they move out, so they may be less settled for a while.

Although they try digging up the pen and play madly, one thing they have not done which other litters have is play with their food. They are very good at keeping their bowl of dry food tidy and eating it all. Our Mistress says it makes cleaning out the pen much easier when she doesn’t have to chase round loads of little pellets of food.

Duchess has passed 5kg. She weighed in at 5090g and increase of 180g. D’Artagnan is now 5900g and increase of 180g as well. Della is 5790g having added 175g and Dixie is doing just fine having reached 4695g an increase of 155g.

    • Thank you. I started by getting into bed with our Mistress and then settled down to enjoy my bone, so it’s been pretty good so far. Thank you for reading the blog for all those years. Have a woofly day.

    • It’s going pretty well so far, although I could do with the rain stopping as I was looking forward to a good walk and I don’t like going out in the rain. Have a woofly day.
