There you were expecting me to tell you how we got on with the Fetal Doppler and the answer is we haven’t yet. Our Mistress managed to order the wrong one! You can tell she is a little distracted at the moment, so I won’t hold it against her too much. Anyway, she sent it back and quickly ordered the replacement so I’m hoping to bring you news in the next day or so. The new thermometer has arrived and that seems to say much the same as the old one, so we can only conclude that Shadow has a naturally fairly low temperature or our Mistress is using it incorrectly – maybe refer to point one above!
According to our Mistress this is positively the worst time of year for Shadow to have puppies and to be fair I can see her point. We are all sleeping in the utility; Shadow, our Mistress, me and the entire spider population. It seems to be the place they gravitate too on their march in search for warmth. They come in through the back door and head for the nearest staging post. Our Mistress does not like spiders. She is also very short sighted and there is nothing freaks her out more than when she has taken her glasses off at night and then she sees a black blob moving. So far she has chalked up five kills in three days and she doesn’t expect today will be any different. I tried scaring her by saying the relatives of the ones she has killed will all come and get her in the night, but she didn’t appreciate my humour.
Shadow will get her last weigh in today at swimming. She had a little walk round the village but she’s struggling and doesn’t want to go far or very fast. She says now she just wants to get on with it, but it is likely to be another few days yet.
