Our Mistress has a cuckoo clock which she bought in Austria over 30 years ago. She has always loved it, but with house moves it has suffered a little over the years. One of the hands was broken, which meant you could only tell the time on the hour when the cuckoo popped out. Anyway, she decided it was time to do something about it and found she could buy new hands on Ebay. She prided herself on how easy the whole process was and was delighted with her brand new cuckoo clock… until she set it running. It cuckooed 11 times when the hands reached quarter past four! Clearly not so easy as she thought. She stopped the clock, took it off the wall and carefully removed the hands. She very gently positioned them correctly and put everything back together and set it running. Oh I had to laugh. She had miscounted the cuckoos. It wasn’t eleven it was twelve. Until she takes it down and has another go our cuckoo is forever going to be confused with his little hands saying one thing and his chirping saying something else entirely.
We had an email yesterday to say they have changed the pet check in at Calais and there’s a new building. There’s even a drive through check in, which will be so useful when Shadow is in season and our Mistress doesn’t want too many boy dogs around her. I want to have a trip now so I can go and see what it’s like.
