At last I can bring you a photo of the happy couple. This is Shadow with Max. I’m happy because he is a half-brother to my girlfriend Bella and they look quite alike. It’s going to make it harder for me seeing the puppies going off to their new homes, but I do like the thought that Bella will be their Aunt.
Meanwhile back in Switzerland, Beija had her puppies over Wednesday night and into Thursday morning and managed to do everything on her own without help. She is now nursing a litter of seven puppies. Max is their father too. Shadow says she will be very happy if she can have seven. Having said that I forgot to tell you the funny story about the storks. I told you our Mistress had seen some at the service station on her way to Switzerland, well Max said there are storks that come down to the field behind where he lives and the night before he mated with Shadow there were twelve. If that were an omen then she will be looking forward to a very big litter. Our Mistress said that wouldn’t be a good idea as she had difficult taking care of that number before. Shadow says this time will be different and she’s learnt from what went wrong. We shall have to see.
Both Shadow and our Mistress are complaining it is too cold here and our Mistress has even been thinking about putting the heating on. That’s unheard of in mid-summer. This is supposed to be the brief point of the year where she can manage without the heating. Although, obviously, if she decide to light the log fire for me to sit in front of I wouldn’t complain! Mind you, Shadow says she wants first call on that spot.
