I’m pleased to say that I am a much happier dog today. I’ve had a rather sore behind for a few days and it turns out that I’d got some blocked glands again. I won’t go into the gory details, but needless to say I don’t envy the vet’s job at times like this and I’m not really a very brave patient either. Anyway, all is well now and I’m feeling so much happier in myself. It’s funny how discomfort can make you irritable with everyone without you realising that’s the cause.
Shadow is on her way and is part way through France as I write. She has not had her progesterone test results yet, but she thinks everything is going the right way so paws crossed.
Our Mistress is getting a little ahead of herself for our new puppy. The little thing hasn’t even been born yet and it is quite possible there will be no girls or none who is suitable, never the less, our Mistress bought a blanket that she has been sleeping with so that is smells of her (and to be fair me too) ready for the puppy to have as soon as she is old enough. It will smell of us so that by the time she actually meets us she will feel that she already knows us and will settle really quickly. It works really well. With a dog the first thing to develop is the sense of smell so early scents remain comforting and important to you. You should see some of Shadow’s puppies when they haven’t seen our Mistress for a while and then suddenly sniff and realise who it is. They go into complete raptures rolling onto their backs and squealing with delight. It’s funny, they don’t get quite so excited about seeing their real mum, but I think that’s because she plays it so much cooler. She reminds me of a Victorian matriarch in some ways.
