Saturday 18th July 2015 – Important message from Aristotle

Alfie has trusted me with something very important today. We would like you all to help our dear friends the Beagles. A while ago there was a campaign to stop a big scientific testing laboratory from setting up a new premises. The local council blocked it but now the Secretary of State has overturned that decision. The only way we are going to bring about real change is to have it made illegal to use dogs in testing of any sort. There are now better ways to test health products than to use dogs. We are often mistaken for Beagles by people who don’t know what we really are, so in a way I guess we feel a special empathy.

Can you imagine what it must be like for a dog to grow up in a cage in a laboratory? For him never to feel grass under his paws or the sun on his fur. For him never to feel the softness of a human hand stroking his head and only ever be met by a gloved hand. For him never to run after butterflies or chase rabbits or balls. For him never to know what it is like to give his love to a human and that human give their love to him. No dog should ever have to grow up in those situations.

Testing medical products on dogs is nonsensical. We have toxic reactions to different things than humans do. Doses affect us differently and we don’t always metabolise things in the same way. Testing on us will not tell you if the product is safe for a human and at the same time the dogs involved are denied even the most basic of rights and freedoms. It is nothing more than barbaric torture and no dog should be subject to it for any reason.

Please, if you do no other good thing today, add your name to the petition to have this practice stopped for the sake of the Beagles and every dog you’ve ever loved, protect us from the evils of such uncivilised behaviour. Sign HERE

  1. Two years ago the local community and local council rejected the plans of B&K Universal to expand this site. Now the government has overturned that decision and given the go-ahead.
This is a company some of whose directors have been charged with animal cruelty and which has been refused permission to set up this abhorent plant in other, more humane, countries.
They propose breeding beagle pups SOLELY for use in labs – for experimenting on. Most right-minded people thought we had abolisihed this practice years ago but there are ways round the legislation that allows it to continue.
As Alfie says, there are other, much more effective ways of testing substances. So why aren’t they used? They are more expensive. These ways will not be developed and become cheaper as long as companies like B&K are allowed to exploit puppies. Theirs is purely a commercial outlook – nothing more.
Breeding puppies for experimentation is CRUEL, UNETHICAL and INHUMANE – please follow Rosemary’s link and let the government know that you object to this process.
