Tuesday 30th June 2015 – She bit me

Now I know Shadow is hormonal but there are limits and she has crossed them. We were outside having, as I thought, a little quiet time. There was just us two older dogs and Ari was indoors so Shadow and he didn’t start larking around because her leg has been hurting again. Anyway, our Mistress was cleaning out the car. After three years she said it was probably about time! There I was minding my own business when everything went wrong. The first our Mistress heard was the scream. Now she’s telling me I scream like a girl, because she assumed it was Shadow who was hurt. She thought it must be her leg so she took us indoors and started examining it carefully wondering where the blood was coming from. The paw looked fine so for a moment she wondered if Shadow’s season had started. I just stood there quietly dripping blood and not being noticed. Eventually our Mistress looked up and was so upset that she was fussing the wrong dog. Out came the bowl of salt water and she held kitchen roll against it tightly to try to stop the bleeding. We all know what ears can be like! She got the Germolene out and then having put some on held my ear together with a Steri-strip and sat stroking my head to soothe me. She made me lie quietly and told me not to shake my head as it would restart the bleeding. Bites often become infected so I had to have a trip to the vet for an antibiotic shot too. It does all mean I’m feeling a bit down in the dumps and don’t want to be around Shadow. I just wish her season would start so we could get past the hormonal stage.
