Friday 19th June 2015 – Taking the biscuit

Now many of you will know that our Mistress has been plagued by allergies and food intolerances for many years. She has tried all sorts of medical remedies over the years which have made little difference. Eighteen months ago she read about another possibility and started to do some research. She’s not quite ready for me to tell you all about it, but she says I can soon. However she started the treatment just under a year ago and has now had four doses at three month intervals. Little by little she is finding she can eat things she hasn’t been able to have for a very long time. The problem now is that she doesn’t want to stop eating the nice things and is happily ploughing her way through everything from biscuits to scones with clotted cream to beer and white wine. Not everything is ok, although that may improve, and every so often it goes horribly wrong and she’s unwell for several days. However on the up side for us she now needs to spend even more time walking so she can justify all the extra food she is eating!

For her it is marvellous as she is getting so much pleasure from eating things that she couldn’t eat. I’m quite surprised she hasn’t started to look like a piece of cheese the amount she has had and as for the pub’s doughnuts with butterscotch ice cream and butterscotch sauce she has become a bit of an addict! Given it’s about fifteen years since she could eat cheese without ill effect you can see why it’s making her happy. Sadly chocolate and red wine are still not working out and she hasn’t had the courage to try pepper, onion, tomato, ginger, strawberries or raspberries but when she shakes off the effects of the chocolate she’ll try one or other of them to see what happens. For my part I like the caramel waffles best, oh and the ice cream!
