Up to yesterday Shadow’s season hadn’t started yet. I don’t know about today yet as she’s not up. Today would be six months since her last one so we are very much on standby. Our Mistress is living her life on a rolling seven day basis. She can only commit to doing anything at most seven days ahead. Given she’s usually such a forward planner it’s a funny situation for her to be in, but she’s pretty much got used to it after doing this for a few years. It does for some complicated conversations where she has to explain exactly why she can’t tell them which day she’ll be going to Switzerland. She has a little list of what has to be done in what order when Shadow sounds the alarm. Obviously telling the stud dog they are on the way is the most important, but then there are all the travel bookings and cancellations of things she should have been doing. She has to make sure there is enough food in the house to feed the rest of us and that she has left us all with clear instructions. This week’s priority is to get on top of her work so that she doesn’t worry too much while she’s away. She certainly doesn’t take the option of the easy life, but then she wouldn’t be her if she did! On the good side, she has managed to help Shadow getting back into shape. Shadow is not as agile as she was before her injury but she has got much of her fitness back and is not going to suffer too badly for not being able to go on long walks while she’s in season. Hopefully it means she’ll have chance to be super fit again by the time she has the puppies. It makes me tired just thinking about it all!
