Thursday 14th May 2015 – Proud of Basil

It seems I’m not the only literary dog in the family. Basil (Beethoven) from Shadow’s second litter is in a book too. He didn’t actually write it, but he’s there because he does so well in dog shows and is a very handsome boy. It’s a book about dog showing, but you can’t actually see him unless you buy the book. However, we just wanted to say ‘Well done, Basil.’ We’re all very proud of you. Especially your mum who is strutting round as though the book is about her personally. Of course, she’s strutting round most of the time at the moment because she’s getting all hormonal in readiness for her season so we’ve got weeks of this to suffer again and from my point of view that side of life is not going well.

On a lighter note, a few weeks ago our Mistress repainted a wall that had become very marked. She said it was us, but I beg to differ. I think it was only some of us. Anyway, it didn’t come out very well as she only did part of the wall and it didn’t blend in very well. It must have been bad, because even our Master noticed, which is not normal! He suggested she did the whole wall to make it better. When she went to get the pain out of the store yesterday she found out what had gone wrong. Last time it seems she used the wrong tin so it wasn’t actually the same colour as the rest of the wall. Now that she has redone the section of wall it blends in without a problem and now she is just waiting to see how long it takes our Master to notice it looks ok again!

Our Mistress has set herself a writing challenge for the month. She asked if I wanted to set one, but, sensibly, I have declined. She is aiming, on top of her other work, to write at least 30,000 words in a month. Day one of the challenge she got to 1363 so she’s not allowed to take many days off at the rate if she’s going to meet the target. I’m doing the ‘good dog’ thing of offering encouragement and being prepared to discuss the next part of her book with her while we are walking, to give her some guidance on what to write about.
