Wednesday 18th March 2015 – It may be Shadow’s back.

Well Shadow went to the specialist yesterday and apparently it might be her back that is the problem. It’s still not completely clear that it’s not the leg as she has very good muscles and is using those to compensate, but is showing some lower back pain. She is having an MRI scan on Friday of both her back and leg to be certain of what the problem is and what needs to be done. It could well mean that she doesn’t need an operation, which would be good news. However, the specialist said that the normal medication is the one I had some years ago and my Mistress vowed that she would never give to another dog again. It turned me from a mild mannered softie into a quite aggressive dog in the space of 24hours. My Mistress then read up on the drug and it can cause all sorts of problems in children, including an increased risk of suicide. She’s asked what the other options are and will hopefully only come back to that as a last resort. It took me about a week and a half to return to normal after that incident. Shadow tried reassuring us by saying she was more balanced in the first place so would be fine, but I’ve lived with her for six years so I know that’s not true! However our Mistress needs her to be better before she can consider her mating. There is no way if she’s already got a bad back that she’s going to want to be pregnant as well. Besides she wouldn’t be able to be on medication in case it affected the puppies. Life is so complicated. The other thing that Shadow is fed up about is having to have times that she doesn’t eat so she can have an anaesthetic or in case she needs one. Whilst she doesn’t particularly overeat, she’s not keen on being hungry!
