There is a downside to being the dog who stayed at home to supervise the building work. There is only so much sawing, hammering, drilling and general banging that any dog can take. After the first hour I really wanted to be somewhere else. Our Mistress reassured me by saying that was just the carpentry stage of the operation and it really would all go away later in the day. It did, but it was replaced by more people and general noise and I still wanted to be elsewhere. Now our Mistress has told me that I’m going to have to help with the painting when they finish so that it can be all straight by the time the others come home. I drew the short straw. Ari was very happy to go to kennels and positively skipped through the door. They do rather spoil him and he has worked out how to get the best out of the people.
There has been a development that I am none too thrilled about. My Mistress has discussed my breath with me. Apparently it is not quite as savoury as it used to be and she thinks we should do something about it. I volunteered to have extra chews, but she said she was thinking along the lines of me starting to clean my teeth regularly. ‘With these paws?’ I said, hoping that would get me out of it. Unfortunately she has offered to help me. I’m pleased to say that the toothpaste is meat flavoured rather than mint, although Ari tells me that mint is nice as it’s one of his favourites. I guess I’ll get used to it, but just at the moment it’s a bit of a shock to the system. This getting older lark really does take its toll.
