Tuesday 18th November 2014 – Hard Work

It turns out that my Mistress is not cut out for a career as a wood stacker. It did not take long yesterday before she regretted ordering a double load of wood. It was long before she got to the end of the first load and coincided with the rain starting. She covered it all with a tarpaulin and went in for a rest, which she said she was tempted to make last for the whole afternoon. That was only the first of the day’s problems. The second one was that the wood store was not actually big enough to stack it all in. Now to be fair, one of the reason’s she doesn’t think anyone should employ her as a wood stacker was because she wasn’t all that good at stacking them in the nice neat piles she sees at other houses. Hers looks a little lopsided and has gaps that don’t look healthy. I also advise not standing too close to our wood shed, in case it all decides to jump out at you as a surprise.  She told me not be so melodramatic when I said that to her and reassured me that it was perfectly safe. She did eventually hit on an idea of where to store the rest of the wood. She had wondered about the patio, which is really quite sheltered, but settled on the side of the garden under the conifers where it always seems to be dry. I guess this is where she is going to learn the difference between somewhere ‘seeming’ to be dry and ‘actually’ being dry! If I am being honest, I think she really chose that spot as it was right up close to where the wood was delivered so did not involve much moving!
