Today it is my 9th birthday. In human terms that’s about 63 – where did the years go? I’m looking forward to my first ever birthday cake and depending on the weather a special walk. If they weather’s bad my Mistress has said I can choose to spend an hour or so snuggled up just her and me on the settee. To be honest, I’m hoping it’s going to rain. However much fun going out somewhere would have been there is nothing like being able to just snuggle up together.
Of course I must wish happy birthday to Esther, Emma and Ebbe – my sisters, and Ramses my brother – Happy birthday all of you. We are so happy that you are all well too.
Anyway, I must also tell you what I’ve been thinking. Now many humans retire between the ages of 62 and 65 and I’ve been thinking about what I should do. I’ve written my blog every day for almost nine years and don’t worry, I don’t plan to stop. It’s just that with working on the Pet Dogs Democratic Party I’m finding myself working harder than ever. I need to be able to concentrate on the work for the party as we get everything launched in time for next year’s general election. It’s made me think. Aristotle is now 3 years old. That makes him an adult. I know you wouldn’t always think so from his behaviour, but it might help him to grow up if he had a little more responsibility. I sat down with him and explained my thinking. He gulped a bit and found it rather daunting and asked if I would help him when he gets stuck, but he has agreed to write my diary on a Saturday and Sunday so that I can at least take the weekend off. I’d like to go down to working fewer days as time progresses, but I probably shouldn’t be too ambitious on that score yet. I hope you’ll all give him your support and encourage him. Quite frankly he’s been a pretty spoilt puppy for the last 3 years so working is going to come as a bit of a shock to him, but I know you’ll all help him to settle in.
Any now, I’m off to sit by the fireside and enjoy my first slice of birthday cake.
