Sunday 27th July 2014 – Murder in the kitchen

Either it was Miss Scarlet with the wooden spoon in the Kitchen or it was the cherries, blackcurrants, blueberries and blackberries which were being turned into sorbet – but there was red everywhere. My Mistress said it looked almost as dramatic as when Megan’s ear was bitten and there really was blood everywhere. Contrary to how it looked, for most of the time things were completely under control. There was an incident in which the blackcurrant pulp was catapulted across the worksurface and all over the cupboards and floor, but I came to the rescue and did the honourable thing of cleaning up. I would have been happier if it had been the already filtered portion without the seeds, but you can’t win them all. As is so often the case it took rather longer than expected so it was well into the afternoon before I could move on to the ice cream, but it was worth the wait. It also shows how good an investment the ice cream maker was or so my Mistress says anyway.

I’ve finished writing the Pet Dogs Democratic Party manifesto views on immigration and am now on the important issue of healthcare. There is so much there to sort out I don’t even know where to start. I now start to see just how much work there must have been setting up the human National Health Service. When you really start to think about what a fantastic service that is you stop looking at what’s wrong with it and should be grateful it exists at all.  Humans just don’t realise how lucky they are, at least not the ones in this country. Healthcare is not free everywhere and it means some people suffer when they shouldn’t need to. I’d like to model our Canine Health Service on the British human system, but paying for it is going to be difficult.

  1. Alfie, I think you’ll just have to find an oil-well or two, so you can set up a free health service. I lived in Doha, Qatar, for a while – it’s one of the oil-rich Gulf states – and all health care was free, not only for humans, but their pets too. my Siamese cat, Jassy, was quite surprised to find his vet visits and meds free, no purrs to pay, so he could save them for us!
