Wednesday 9th July 2014 – A funny journey

Usually if your journey involves only turning 4 or 5 times it’s because you are going a couple of miles down the road. Not so with D’Artagnan today. He turned right out of the hotel, then right onto the main road. After that he had to turn left and drive 420 miles before turning left and driving 45 miles and then he was there. Nowhere in the UK can you drive 420 miles in a straight line without a single change of road name or number. He got very excited when they crossed the border into Kansas as he was quite convinced the colour of the road surface would change to yellow brick. It didn’t, it stayed as boring grey so he sent me a photo for good measure. He said there was nothing much to see on the journey, just grassland and fields, fields and grassland. All very flat and very uniform. When I talked to him, he was enjoying chilling in the hotel and seemed to be hogging the bed from what I could see.

Our Mistress learnt to use cruise control and said there was so little traffic that even as the driver there was plenty of chance to look round at the scenery. She has never done such a long journey and met so few cars on the road. She could get used to it. She nearly misjudged the lack of fuel stations and was very glad not to have run out by the time they arrived at their destination. She was also very glad to find a place that could serve her a hot meal that wasn’t going to affect her allergies and ploughed her way through a very large steak.

I’m not sure what D’Artagnan’s plans are for today as our Mistress will be spending all day doing research. She’s looking forward to it, but it won’t be so much fun for him. He said he might have a lie in tomorrow.
