Only those of you who have read my diary for a very long time, or who have spotted one of the pictures, will remember my little car. Yesterday my Mistress cleaned and polished it for the first time in several years. To be fair it hasn’t actually been anywhere for several years so it’s a different type of neglect than simply not washing it very often. I think in fairness to my poor little car it might be best if it stayed away from water. To say that it has developed one or two rust spots would be an understatement. My Mistress said that Fiats used to be renowned for their rust and if my little car is anything to go by then it is a deserved reputation. Admittedly it is 16 years old, so nearly twice as old as I am, but I think on the body front I am fairing rather better. It is sad to see it happen, but I suppose that is life. Ironically the car’s name ‘barchetta’ means little boat in Italian, but this little boat is most definitely not suited to going on or in water. The passenger may have a bit of a problem if it rains too as the window doesn’t seem to be totally water tight. Ah well, it’s the stuff that memories are made of and both me and my Mistress have some very happy memories of travelling in my little car and getting to know how things worked in Belgium. She used to take me along to the car’s road test when I was a puppy in the hope that the presence of a cute puppy would help it pass. It did every time, so I must have done some good. Mind you it passed first time this year, so maybe there are a few more years in the old thing yet.
