Tuesday 6th May 2014 – An expectation of summer

My Mistress is clearly suffering from the delusional idea that we are going to have a summer this year. She has painted her toe nails. She’s not very good at all that girly stuff, so it is quite a momentous occasion. She has even abandoned wearing winter socks and found some sandals to put on. Life is so much easier being a dog. I have never had the inclination to wear sandals, socks, or pain my toe nails. She did once train painting the puppies’ toe nails as a means of identification, but it’s fair to say that was an unmitigated disaster as Shadow washed it off again. I was wrong about some of the bank holiday weekend, it didn’t rain yesterday and as a result we were able to get out and do some gardening. When I say ‘we’ that may be stretching a point, my Mistress was putting some canes around another of the fruit trees. I had resorted to peeing on that one when the original favourite was out of range. Oh I like the pee stick she has put in the garden especially for me, but it’s good to have some variety.

It has been good having our grandparents here. They did ask why we are barking so much. My Mistress explained that with Shadow being hormonal we are reacting more to her. To be fair that excuse is wearing a bit thin. Shadow’s season still hasn’t started and I’m starting to wonder if we might be misleading her about the barking. Maybe it’s time to admit we’ve got a problem and consider doing something about it. I bark in defence and to make it seem as though I’m big and scary when the others frighten me. I also bark when they bark and I have no idea why I do that. Shadow, well she can be a bit highly strung and barks every time there is a slight noise a passing shadow or a speck of dust. Ari, well he barks when either Shadow or I bark or to get his own way. I’m not sure where you start with that lot. I suppose I need to have more confidence in myself without needing to resort to a loud noise. Shadow needs to start drinking a herbal tea that will calm her down and Ari needs to realise it’s time to grow up. Now to put it all into action!
