Thursday 20th March 2014 – Good news and irony

First the good news, yesterday when Megan went to the specialist they could find nothing wrong with her and said she has simply not come into season yet. She may be missing a season or she may start in another month, only time will tell. They did some other blood tests that she is waiting for the results of, but she’s crossing her paws that it will all be good news and she may yet have puppies.

IMG_1219Now the irony! After going off for little or no apparent reason the smoke alarm did not go off on Tuesday when it should have done. It was a windy day and things did not go well with the stove, as you can see from the photograph. Basically the whole office filled with smoke and we are still getting rid of the smell. We opened all the windows and did our best to air the room but through all of it, and at times it was pretty bad, the smoke alarm stayed resolutely silent. You will be pleased to know that the company which fitted the stove will be coming out to us on Tuesday to see if they can improve the situation so that it does not happen again. They are going to put a chimney cowl that spins, which will look pretty if nothing else! They are going to make the flue longer too in an attempt to discourage the wind from coming down it. It is no good thinking we can’t use it on a windy day as we live at the highest point in the village in a slightly exposed location so it is often windy. What is certain is that we can’t sit in the office with the stove doing this! My Mistress has resorted to bursts of the central heating to stay warm in the meantime, but it would be better if we could close the windows!

  1. They obviously didn’t do a very good job of fitting it! We had a stove fitted just before Christmas and haven’t had any problems with smoke coming down the chimney!
