T minus 7 – oh doesn’t time fly.
When the puppies play now they are very vigorous. They run around and have a wonderful time and then when the energy runs out they all flop down asleep. It is as though they all have the same type of batteries in them and all run for about the same length of time. Every so often one is trying sleep while five puppies are running around, and in most cases over, them, but generally when one sleeps they all sleep.
Shadow is teasing the puppies. She is now only feeding them at night, but walked up and down the side of the pen this morning, on the outside, getting the puppies all excited at the prospect she was going in to feed them. It’s partly because she wants to feed them still and mainly because she wants to check they are all ok and had a good night’s sleep – which they did. I think Shadow is going to find it quite hard when they go next week. She always realises when the first one leaves but has dealt with it ok until now. My Mistress has promised her lots of walks and fuss and attention to cheer her up, but it’s not the same as having her puppies around. I don’t know what age she’d like them to be here until. She certainly wasn’t impressed that Aristotle stayed, although they do play quite a lot now.
Today’s picture is the escape committee in action. When we open the gate there are always some puppies trying to climb out. Occasionally they succeed and my Mistress has to retrieve them quickly. The problem can only get worse. My Mistress did try to devise an extra gate level to stop it happening but that presented other problems. It will be easier when Shadow stops feeding them later so does not need to jump in regularly.
