T minus 10 – and counting. It is only 10 days until the first and second of the puppies go to their new homes. In this picture they look sweet, innocent, sleepy puppies but do not be deceived. My Mistress has reached the point where she describes going in to clean them out while they are still in their as ‘incursions into enemy territory’. They gang up one her, pounce on her slippers, hang from her pyjamas. The whelping box is used for ambushes on each other and on her. They can poo more than you would believe and can rearrange a pen in a blink of an eye. On an individual basis they are cute, cuddly and innocent and even two together can be very pleasant, but allow them to become mass ranks and you stand no chance. Weighing them can only be done when they are very sleepy and that doesn’t happen very often. If they are not happy to be in the small pen at cleaning out time they make their displeasure known in a loud and raucous fashion and yet we adore them and my Mistress will be very sad to see any of them leave.
As long as the rain stops they will be off outside today. Yesterday some of them had the pleasure of being introduced to a whole noisy group of people at the same time and were absolutely fine. One of the people was a friend who’s dog had puppies two weeks ago so of course, my Mistress was comparing notes.
Shadow is not very well, which isn’t helping. She was sick yesterday and is off her food today. It probably means that will be the last of her milk, but my Mistress is still letting her go into the puppies for some of their meals. She is not happy to stay with them for long but will at least check they are ok and give them a little wash.
