Friday 17th January 2014 – Weigh in and video

We’ve been trying to let Shadow do most of the feeding for the last 24 hours – certainly at the points where she needed the pressure of the milk taken off. There was one very funny moment when a puppy got as far as pressing her nose against a teat and milk spurted in all directions so that they were all wearing it. The time of plenty didn’t last. At this stage we would expect the gains to be about 100g a day give or take. As you will see from the actual weights we are back to supplementing from bottle feeding and my Mistress has decided that this afternoon they will get to try their first solids.

Chekov was the most successful in finding the milk. He gained 110g to reach 1830g. Cracker isn’t doing so badly either, she gained 90g to reach 1780g. They are not being given any extra! Cinderella gained 50g to reach 1760g, Casanova gained 40g to reach 1700g, Cosette gained 60g to reach 1620g and little Cuddles gained 60g to reach 1440g. None of those gains leave us anything to worry about, but it looks like the time is right to bring out the baking tin to act as the puppies’ first bowl. Conveniently it has six little places and there are six little puppies! We only use that for a few days at most as they very soon need more than it holds and are too big to sit that closely together.
