I know you want to hear how the puppies are doing, but first I want to bring to your attention an outrageous situation. Imagine a case where you are arrested for committing an offence for which there is only circumstantial evidence. You are taken off to the police station and imprisoned without bail and without being able to call anyone. Imagine that when you face trial the onus is for you to prove you are innocent and not for the court to be assured of your guilt. Imagine that at the end of it you might face the death sentence. Living in the UK as a human you are probably thinking it couldn’t happen. You have rights. There is Habeas Corpus which mean you can’t just be held. There is the legislation to ensure you can get legal representation and make a phone call. Here the Criminal Justice System is built around the premise of innocent until proven guilty. We don’t have a death penalty for any crime.
That may be so for a human but it is not the same for a dog. A friend of ours has been accused of biting a woman. The woman did not even see Elsie the lurcher inflict the bite and yet poor Elsie has been taken away pending trial. She can have no visits. Her owner can’t even know where she is. Now the burden of proof is on Elsie to show she is innocent even though the girl walking her saw it was not Elsie and the woman did not see it happen. That is not enough. The Dangerous Dogs Act is not there to protect the rights of innocent dogs. The court should be demanding the woman’s medical records and calling witnesses. If there is no evidence then Elsie should be found not guilty. If any of you know any way that we can help Elsie then please let us know. Dogs need protection from humans under the law too!
Meanwhile back at the puppies, todays weights are without much in the way of supplement and as you will see, Shadow is not quite as ready to do most of the feeding as we hoped. Chekov only gained 30g to reach 1330g. We are not too concerned about that as he was going very well and a bit of a pause won’t hurt him. Casanova added 60g to reach 1270g. Cracker is catching the boys up and gained 80g to reach 1260g. Cinderella added 50g to reach 1200g. Then there are the little two. Cuddles has passed the kilogram. She added 80g to reach 1020g. Cosette is the only one who did not do well. She lost 10g and now weighs 1090g. She had added 100g the day before so it may be she was having a rest or it may be the previous day’s reading was slightly wrong. However, she is going to be getting extra food at each meal today to get her back on track and the others are going to be offered a little too, but only when they have finished feeding from their mum.
Today’s video was taken towards the end of mealtime to give a bit more variation. You can find it here. http://youtu.be/s__bbljwX00
