Well it seems that cutting back on the formula was a mistake, particularly for the little ones. No, Shadow does not have enough milk for six growing puppies. We aren’t going to top them up every feed as we really want as much as possible to come from their mum, but we are going back to topping up every other feed for the little ones and rather less often for those who can clearly fend for themselves. Part of the problem is definitely the size difference meaning the big ones are getting the pick of teats and the little ones get what is left when the big ones roll off. We have tried giving them one to one time, but the little ones are still very slow feeders and all hell breaks loose from the big ones in the meantime – which upsets Shadow. My Mistress is going to make up another batch of the formula today so that there is plenty ready as we need it.
Chekov does not need help feeding, he added 50g to reach 1190g. Casanova is not doing too as well having added 20g to reach 1070g. Cinderella is getting the hand of what she needs to do and added 50g to reach 1040g. Cracker added 40g to reach 1040g. Those four are all in the range of last year’s puppies at this stage. They varied from 1200g down to 1040g. At the same stage 2 years ago, Aristotle weighed just 656g! Anyway, back to this year. Cosette added only 20g to reach 920g and Cuddles added just 10g to reach 814g – as you can see those two and Casanova need a little help.
