Monday 6th January 2014 – Hard work

IMG_0653(2)Although Shadow seems well in herself again and doesn’t have any symptoms of anything being wrong, her milk is variable. We thought we had overcome the problems yesterday afternoon when she suddenly seemed to have plenty of milk and then overnight it all seemed to dry up again. My Mistress is a novice bottle feeder and while she has now mastered the basics, including remembering which puppies she has fed and which she hasn’t, she didn’t realise that they weren’t taking from the bottle because they were full, they weren’t taking from the bottle because the teat was blocked and the milk had thickened! Duh! It was a long, long night until she realised the problem at 5am and got the puppies to have a good feed. She is not trying to catch up on a little of the sleep she missed out on in between feeds, which are about hourly. They had spread to being about every hour and twenty minutes yesterday when things were going well. Hopefully she will get back to that shortly. It will be interesting to see what progress has been made at today’s weigh in.

Now that there are gaps between feeds she is going to set the baby monitor up so that she can leave the room for a few minutes longer at a time, but be on hand to come back the minute she hears a puppy is calling her. The problem is that the wireless signal of the monitor does not work all that well in some parts of our house.
