Well the recipe that my Mistress made up ready in case the puppies needed it is working wonders. You ca tell which pups have taken to the bottle and which haven’t by looking at the weight gains. First of all to put it in context, the total weight gain across all the puppies the previous day was 298g. The gain to today when they have all, alternately been given formula to supplement them when they were crying for food and couldn’t find any, is 464g, but it’s far from evenly distributed. Chekov is still the heaviest. He gained 90g and now weighs 966g. Casanova added 106g and now weighs 940g. Cracker is not so keen on bottle feeding yet, she added 56g and is now 886g. Cinderella has found the bottle is the answer to all her prayers and her struggle to find a teat is over. She added 96g to reach 860g and may have to be rationed to make sure her ball gown will still fit, let alone the slipper. Cosette wasn’t so keen on the bottle and added 76g to reach 788g. Then there is little Cuddles. At this stage despite the fact she really needs to develop she has decided she really wants her mother’s milk, even when that means she is crying because she’s hungry. She only added 40g to reach 660g – but it is still a gain and is enough for us not to worry. We have also found that Cinderella can burp with the best of them and is not at all ladylike.
The good news is that this morning Shadow seems to have a little more milk again. My Mistress is going to carry on giving a helping hand for the next day or so to be on the safe side, but we are hoping that maybe Shadow can take over properly once again.
