The weigh in today has been very interesting. I think it probably tells us that Shadow at this stage is in much better health than she has been in previous years and that putting her on puppy food in the past was having an effect on her body long before the signs of being ill showed up. This year she seems very well indeed, apart from a little tired. In her first litter the total gain in weight to the day after birth was 100g across 7 puppies an average of only 14g per puppy. Last year it was 187g across 5 puppies – an average of 37g. This year it has been 292g across 6 puppies, an average of almost 49g. Chekov is heaviest at 550g, having gained 56g. Then there are Cracker and Cinderella at 522g each having gained 56g and 66g respectively. Casanova is 470g having gained 36g. Cosette is 468g having gained 48g. The baby of the family, little Cuddles who is so similar in shape to Ari at that age, is now 344g having gained 30g.
Later today we will start a series of posts looking at one of the puppies and will post ‘then’ and ‘now’ photos. Today will be Cinderella.
