None of us has had much sleep. Shadow could not get comfortable. She was in her own bed next to her whelping box, but when she started digging my Mistress made her get into the whelping box. Then bed was removed from the room so she couldn’t get back into it. There was just one small problem – Shadow wanted to be comfortable and could not get comfy in the whelping box, so the next thing I knew she had got in with me! I am a long suffering dog and when a bitch in early labour gets into bed with me, what can a chap do? I just looked helplessly at my Mistress and rather than helping she took a photo!
This morning Shadow has been out to the toilet and had a good drink and a little to eat and is pacing and digging – but doesn’t seem to want to have them in the whelping box this year, which could make life rather more difficult. My Mistress and her friend are taking it in turns to watch her while the other has the chance of a shower and breakfast. What is a shame is that my Master is going away today to see his family, so he is going to miss the birth.
I’ll update you again at lunchtime or sooner if anything new happens.
