We got through yesterday without incident but let’s see what happens today. The turkey was cooked, and turned out to be the only thing Shadow would eat. She had been on liver before that, but decided she would prefer turkey or my Mistress’s oat cereal. If it keeps my Mistress going then it can’t be all bad. Shadow’s temperature spiked again yesterday afternoon at a higher value than it had been the day before. We are waiting to see whether it is now into the dropping phase which precedes labour. Other than not eating and not wanting to move or let me Mistress out of her sight, Shadow is fine and is grateful for all the good wishes.
Although quiet, everyone had a good Christmas and I thoroughly enjoyed my Christmas dinner. I wasn’t given everything, but I did have some turkey, carrots and broccoli. Shadow will only eat anything if fed by hand. She won’t consider eating from a bowl and she won’t so much as look at dog food. She even turned down her Bonio and they are usually her favourite biscuits. I offered to help, but after I’d managed to snaffle a whole bowl of food at breakfast I was excluded from the kitchen on every occasion she was offered food. Some people can be real killjoys.
As I write this on Christmas night, I would just like to echo Her Majesty on the importance of reflection and contemplation. As we look forward to a new year we also look forward to new beginnings and hope and pray that when the puppies do arrive they will all be healthy and happy and live long and fulfilled lives.
As the birth cannot be more than a day or two away at most, I will post an update around lunchtime Boxing Day – or sooner if anything exciting is happening.
