Monday 2nd December 2013 – Learning to read

I kid you not, Aristotle is learning to read. It all started with a suggestion by our friend who came to stay last week. She was saying that some dogs can obey written commands and she thought Aristotle was bright enough to learn. He got very excited and asked to start immediately. My Mistress is working with seven basic commands all of which are clearly written on sheets of A4 paper. He’s starting with SIT and SETTEE. The latter being where he goes when my Mistress needs him to calm down and of course STAY when she wants him not to move once he gets there. He says it will be a while before he moves on to the works of Shakespeare but we all have to start somewhere. He’s just started to respond to hand signals so it was time for him to move on to the next step. We aren’t sure that the LEAVE command written down will be all that effective as my Mistress needs to gain his attention first and if he’s engrossed in something he should not be doing then that can be easier said than done. He didn’t do too much training yesterday as he wasn’t feeling well in the morning. My Mistress thinks it may have been his own fault for licking out the fat left in the meat tin in the kitchen!

ChrisI promised to bring you a better picture of my Master as the baddie in the pantomime and here he is in all his glory. As you can imagine, he doesn’t look like this normally or we would all have moved out in protest and that would include our Mistress! They went through with their karaoke attempt and I can report that it was as bad as they had feared.
