My Mistress is very excited and anxious about our first breeding test in this country, which is on Saturday. She was upset yesterday as one of the four entrants has dropped out. That means there is only going to be at most one stud dog in this country after Saturday. In my book that makes him one very lucky dog! He is one of the possibles for Ari’s sister to mate with as long as she passes. At least they can have chance to play together on Saturday afternoon after the test is out of the way and see how it goes. My Mistress is concluding that trying to develop a dog breed from scratch is one of the hardest things you can do. Looking at it positively our numbers have quadrupled in just five years, but there are still only 40 of us so we have an awfully long way to go. If you put all the set-backs together you really could get seriously disheartened. On the other paw I pointed out to her that she should look at all we have achieved rather than the other way round. Maybe she was setting her targets too high, a problem she is often accused of.
Yesterday was my day in the other room and I didn’t take it very well. We are alternating, Megan and me. Shadow came to keep me company, which begrudgingly made it a little easier. Today is a good day as Megan gets to sit out and I get the bed right by my Mistress. Shadow doesn’t keep Megan company, as Meg says she prefers to be on her own when it’s like that. As long as she’s had a really long walk she doesn’t mind too much. Perhaps that’s what I need when I can’t be in the office – a really long walk first, so that I don’t sit twiddling my paws and whining the hours away.
