Monday 30th September 2013 – A lovely weekend

It’s been a lovely weekend with lots of time spent with us, which I always appreciate. Shadow and Ari went for a long walk yesterday and had a super run across a stubble field. The only problem is that as Shadow’s hormones start to kick in for her season she goes through a few weeks of being totally deaf to being called back to heal. She led the way and of course it would have been rude for Aristotle not to follow. They did come back eventually but not before my Mistress was starting to get stressed that they were going to head as far as the field of sheep. Aristotle said they were only doing it to wind her up. They’d heard all along but thought it would be more funny to keep running and see what lengths my Mistress would go to to get them to come back. Usually treats can be called into the negotiation but unfortunately my Mistress hadn’t stuffed her pockets with dog treats so she could only ask them nicely. Aristotle said on this occasion he’d have settled for the promise of a treat when he came home, but Shadow wouldn’t hold out.

My Master has been gathering conkers. I think he’s reverting to childhood and wants to see if he can beat anyone. He’s talked about resorting to the old tricks of slow cooking them and soaking them in vinegar, but not at the same time. I wonder if I should tell him that I found on the internet that there is a conkers championship he could take part in, or whether it would just be asking for trouble. I think my Mistress is more concerned about just how many he feels the need to collect and exactly how long they are going to sit on the kitchen table for.
