My Mistress was delighted to find donkeys on the beach at the seaside yesterday. She said she sat on a bench watching them and wondering what is involved in looking after a donkey and whether it would be possible to have one of our own. She’s crazy and that’s all I’m saying on the subject. It’s a good job she’s got our Master to act as a restraining influence otherwise she’s be bringing home all sorts of waifs and strays. She spent the rest of her time watching people with their dogs, mainly the dogs. One poor man was walking a little white dog that was wearing a harness that looked more a pink tutu than something a dog should have on. She wondered at what point in life he’s lost as self-respect. I said, ‘Never mind the man, at what point did the dog lose her self-respect?’
One of the things my Mistress did while sitting on the seafront was to put together a little calendar of the implications of when Shadow comes into season. She thinks the earliest start date will be 9th October, but it’s just that she seems very hormonal already. I said that she’s always hormonal a long time before it starts and I should know, I have to put up with it. It’s making planning her book launch very difficult. I don’t think it’s going to be the big celebration she was hoping for. I volunteered to stand in for her but she says there is only so much I can do. I can sign books for her, I’ve been forging her signature for years, but of course that may be something it’s best not to mention to her. People can be very sensitive about that sort of thing!
