I hope today is a normal day rather than a surreal day. It was one of ‘those’ days yesterday! My Mistress had a really bad upset stomach so didn’t want to stray too far too early in the day. As a result of that and various incidentals such as the purchase of a crate of beer, we were very late leaving the mooring in Gent. We had a lovely cruise down through some very pretty waterways with the plan being to stay at a place called Deinze. We had to be there by 6pm to make sure we could get through the bridge. We got there by 5pm so all was well, except there were no moorings so we had to carry on. It was a long way to the next place for moorings and we didn’t get there until 7.15pm … Except they were full too. At that point the crisis began.
We couldn’t find a mooring and the evening was moving on. In the end we found one next to some barges. No, I don’t mean pretty little canal barges as you get at home. I mean big industrial megatanker barges that scare you witless. Anyway the barges weren’t the problem. The problem was that the moorings were designed for them and not us and you had to climb a ladder to get off. When did you last see a dog climb a ladder? My master managed to carry us both when we first arrived but my Mistress was shaking worrying about my Master and us. She said she wanted to bring some grass on board for us to go to the toilet there. I was happy but Ari was a bit more concerned. Not ideal, but definitely a safer option. Safer but not ideal!!!
