I’ve done a little negotiating and the others have conceded that if I will stay out of the way in the morning they will let me spend some time in the office in the afternoons. I think it’s the best deal I’m going to get out of them, so I’ve accepted. I think what swung it was when my Mistress was getting her tea yesterday. She was just having some cold meat and oat cakes and had carved the meat of the bone from a joint left from a couple of days ago. Anyway, she told the others that whilst they were treating me badly I was the only one to get any off-cuts. Now, please don’t misunderstand, they did not at that point see the error of their ways. At that point the girls grumbled, whilst Aristotle simply helped himself to what was on my Mistress’s plate while her back was turned. She was, as you can imagine not happy. Anyway, the thing that swayed it was her losing her temper and sitting us all down and saying we couldn’t have anything else to eat until we had come to an acceptable compromise and one that didn’t involve her only having half the amount of tea she had originally expected.
Shadow is all on edge. She’s waiting to hear if she has permission to go to see the new stud dog that she and our Mistress have chosen for her. I think it’s all a bit weird as he is the father of the one she mated with last year. I think that means that the puppies will not only be the brothers and sisters to the last litter but their aunts and uncles as well. She said she was fed up with young dogs and thought it was time to go for an older man. It’s just a phase. She’ll be wanting a toy-boy next!
