My Mistress set off yesterday morning after breakfast. Shadow and I had the whole house to ourselves and made the most of it by stretching out on different settees. We had company from late morning but for a while it was just the two of us and the settees. My Mistress rang later to say that Megan had arrived at her new home and had a good sniff round. She had met one of the cats and they had sniffed each other hello. She says the best things so far is that she has a little boy to throw a ball for her all day. She has also been asked if she likes going running and says she does, but is used to running up mountains and she hadn’t seen any of those. She was a bit sad when my Mistress left, but has promised to try her best to settle in and relax. She’s glad that my Mistress is going to see her today and that she has one of my Mistress’s old t-shirts to sleep with. While my Mistress took Megan, Aristotle stayed with my grandparents and although he was as good as gold he had started to whine a bit when he thought my Mistress has left him. What a lot we are. We really do get very attached to our humans. It’s our biggest strength and our biggest failing all rolled into one. If anything happened to my Mistress they have often discussed what would happen to me. I’m so attached to her that I’d probably just pine to death myself. I’d be one of those dogs who sat every day by their master’s graveside. Obviously that’s harder to do if someone is cremated, but you get the picture. Anyway, things are far too quiet here and we all want to see them home again.
