Aristotle was in the dog house yesterday. He wanted to play ball but my Mistress was busy so he decided that we didn’t need humans in order to play. He went to fetch a ball out of the bag which is by the back door and then came back to the office. He climbed up on the settee so he could get some distance into it and then threw the ball for his mother to fetch. Shadow thought it was great. She’s always up for a game of ball and was quite happy for Ari to be the ball thrower, so she brought it back to him. He threw it again and they would have carried on all day if my Mistress hadn’t put her foot down and told them they were not to play in the house. It wasn’t that they were likely to knock things off with the ball, it did bounce but not too high. It was Shadow charging round the office to fetch it that really caused the problems. I suppose my cheering on the sidelines didn’t help it being a quiet Sunday either. I said Ari should get a summer job as a ball boy at Wimbledon. I wonder if they have thought of using dogs instead of humans. I’m sure we could do a good job and it doesn’t look as though Ari would need a great deal of training in the role, probably no more than the humans that do take part.
It’s weird. I had got so used to wet weather that I’m finding this long spell of fairly dry weather very odd. I keep expecting a heavy shower to appear out of nowhere. The ground is even drying out for the first time in months. I don’t know whether to relax and expect it to continue or take an umbrella everywhere, just in case!
