When I spoke to my Mistress last night after a good start to the day yesterday things didn’t go quite so well later. They had a lovely time with my mum and sister. Apparently, my sister is going greyer than I am, which didn’t make me feel so bad about my grey. They heard news of my other brother and sisters and they are all well, although one of my half-sisters died last year. She was older than we are by a couple of years, but everyone else is well, which is good news.
The less good news was that both of the pet shops we used to go to have closed. One it turns out has moved and they simply didn’t find it, but the other has gone altogether. Worse than that, the hardware store no longer sells the great big metre long dog chews. I was heart-broken, I’d really got my hopes up about that. As if that wasn’t enough, on Valentine’s Day when they arrived at their lovely hotel, the desk didn’t have their reservation and then put them in a room that wasn’t so good and where the internet connection didn’t work. They were told it would be ok if they changed room. So they packed up and moved to a room on a different floor…where there was no internet signal! As if that wasn’t enough, there was no space in the restaurant and my Mistress felt thoroughly fed up. I did try to cheer her up by telling her how much I was looking forward to seeing her and she said she felt much the same. It was one of those times where you just wanted to say – ‘there’s nowhere quite like home’. If nothing else a holiday is good for making you appreciate just what you’ve left behind and as I’m part of the ‘what’s been left behind’ that seems like quite a good thing to me.
