Just as Shadow was recovering from pancreatitis we think she now has another problem. She stopped wanting to feed the puppies at all yesterday and spent all last night licking herself, which is not normal. She also feels hot underneath so we are wondering if she may have a touch of mastitis. She’s off to the vet this evening. In the meantime it means that my Mistress has to step up what she is doing again so that the puppies get back on track. So we have gone back to 3 hourly feeds with the next one at 1pm and then 4pm, 7pm, 10pm and whenever they wake in the night. She has also increased the quantity of food for them to double what they were getting and needs to make sure they have all eaten plenty. We will be starting to put baby food in some later but my Mistress is not happy with the baby food she bought as some contains onion and some contains tomato, both of which can cause problems to dogs, although the tomatoes are unlikely if they were ripe and not green. Anyway, she is going to the shop to read all the ingredients before buying some more.
All that means there have been some weight gains, but not great. Britannia has gained 60 to reach 2150g. Bumble added 40g to reach 2190g. Bossanova added 40g to reach 2140g. Beethoven added 50g to get to 2030g but Boadicea only added 10g to reach 1950g. Hopefully we can sort that out again today, but the puppies may be faced with accepting they’ve seen the last of their mother’s milk. All that means, that once again my Mistress is looking stressed!
