Monday 5th November 2012 – Christmas

If it doesn’t happen now it isn’t going to happen. Christmas may well be cancelled and that would not be good. The Christmas cards have been bought. The letter is written. The question is, will any of the cards make it as far as the post box before the puppies arrive? Then of course there’s the question of presents. The only ones which have been bought so far are for my Master. That worries me. And what about the Christmas tree and outdoor lights? How is Santa going to know to stop here and bring the puppies their presents – quite apart from mine? My Mistress seems to think it will all happen somehow, but isn’t exactly sure how. Looking on the bright side, what could be better for Christmas day than to share it with a litter of tiny puppies who can learn the wonder of turkey for the very first time?

I would like to applaud the police dog who caught one of the thieves that had broken into my Master’s work premises. It is so good to hear of dogs doing worthwhile jobs and even though I know my literary career is important, I do understand that maybe dogs that undertake brave deeds as part of their work are maybe doing something a little more important than I am. I’m too much of a coward to do anything like that. I don’t even fight back against the girls. Shadow was with us during the morning yesterday and I simply cowered behind my Mistress’s chair just in case she decided to come in my direction. You can never be too careful. I wouldn’t be cut out for the split second decision to pin someone down who might be carrying a weapon. I’d be stood there thinking they might hurt me.
