Saturday 3rd November 2012 – It’s getting serious

The dog breeding book has come out and my Mistress is revising all that she needs to know for two weeks’ time. The next stage will be to sort out the utility and get everything out on the sides ready. I think that may be happening next week. There are newspapers and towels and disinfectant and all sorts of exciting things. I know she’s planning to buy a couple of pieces of vet bed in addition to the ones we’ve got but other than that the most we might need is new batteries for the scales. We’ve reached the conclusion that Shadow is not as big as she was last year and the litter will be much smaller. It may just be the five we could see at the vet, but on the bright side that should mean they are larger when they are born, which would be a good thing for all of us, except Shadow having to give birth. I’m rather grateful that they won’t arrive until after my birthday. Of course it would be nice to share that day with them in the future but at a distance. I like to have my Mistress’s attention on my birthday and if it were the day that Shadow gave birth then I wouldn’t get much attention at all. It’s bad enough that just after that my Mistress will start sleeping downstairs with Shadow. I’d have taken up residence in the chair outside the room if the chair hadn’t been moved to the office. I’m not sure what I’m going to do instead – maybe just sleep in the chair in the office and be on paw if I’m needed.

I’d better go and get Ari ready to go to our grandparents. He was busy chewing an antler last time I saw him and showing no signs of getting his things together. You know what it’s like. There you are ready to go out of the door and only then to the ‘children’ think about putting their leads on.
