Saturday 2nd June 2012 – How could I be cross with him?

Aristotle remembered to tell me that he was giving my book away for free this weekend after he came back from his CT scan at the vet’s yesterday. When a very cute puppy is standing in front of you, looking crestfallen and with his little legs wobbling all over the place, how can you possibly get cross with him? I could understand my Mistress wanting to just scoop him up in her arms and cuddle him. He really did look as though that would be the best thing for him. We won’t get his results for a couple of weeks. It was funny when the vet rang my Mistress to go to pick him up. The place where it is done is quite a long way from our house, so my Mistress didn’t come home in between. By the time they rang she was sitting munching an oatcake in the Sainsbury’s car park just round the corner from the vet. It meant she was there in just a couple of minutes, which rather took them by surprise. She didn’t want our little Ari to have to be there any longer than necessary.

Amigo has gone for another sleepover, so the house is very quiet. It’s going to be strange when he goes to his new home next Saturday. Who am I going to argue with then? It’s funny when only having four dogs in the house can suddenly seem not that many at all.

Losing my Dad has made me all too aware of my own mortality. I know it’s affected my Mistress like that too. I’m already 6 ½ and still thought I had my whole life ahead of me. It makes you realise that if there are things you still want to achieve you need to get on and do them, rather than thinking that you could get round to it next year. I guess I understand a little more why my Mistress is trying to learn the keyboard. I think I might draw up a ‘bucket list’. The problem is that top on my list was going to meet my dad, which just shows you I shouldn’t have left it this long.
