Tuesday 3rd April 2012 – Being nice to Aristotle

I need to be nice to my little buddy. It is looking unlikely that he will be able to have a career as a stud dog and I know how it feels to be told that. I was about his age when I received the news and it was made clear to me I had to consider my other career options. Over the last six years I’ve carved out a role for myself as a writer and the figurehead of a publishing company. I don’t know what he will do. We can’t all be writers. He’s a bit down at the moment and still clinging to the hope that his final tests won’t look quite so grim. He’s got to wait until Megan comes back from her trip to Switzerland before he can be booked in for those so he’s got a couple of weeks of uncertainty ahead of him. He has also been told that he should cut down on his food allowance to make sure he doesn’t carry any extra weight at all. That hasn’t gone down well either. The problem there is that he is very good on his hind legs and can easily help himself to things off the side in the kitchen. He does sometimes give the game away and the muddy paw print that has appeared on the table cloth does seem to fit his paw. On a brighter note, everyone who meets him falls in love with him and the lady at the vets was going home to her husband to discuss going on the waiting list for a puppy. I said he might like to train as a Pet Therapy dog. That way he can bring a lot of pleasure to a lot of people and do a very important job. I know my Mistress would like one of us to train for that, but I hate my ears being played with so I was ruled out. He says he wants to do his bronze and silver courses first and give it all some thought. He has been told that he can choose a special comfy bed when he gets his final test results, if they are bad. I’m hoping that we might be able to get a 2 for 1 deal on them.
