Saturday 14th January 2012 – It’s cold outside

Well staying in bed yesterday proved a great success. Nothing seemed to go wrong at all. The delivery expected by my Mistress arrived and turned out to be much better than she could possibly have dreamed of, but you will have to wait until tomorrow for me to tell you all about that. I need to take some photographs of it first. I would probably be better to stay in bed today too as it is so very cold outside. It’s been such a mild winter that I wasn’t expecting it to be minus 6 Celsius all of a sudden. At least it means that the girls and Ari won’t get all muddy on their walk later, but the downside of that from my point of view is that they bring less of the walk home for me to sniff.

We had a very exciting email yesterday from someone who would like an Entlebucher puppy. They are looking for a dog instead of a collie to train as a working farm dog. My Mistress was thrilled at the prospect of being able to get at least one of our number into a working capacity in this country. I said I presumed she wasn’t thinking of sending me to help out in the meantime, but fortunately she said the only one of us that really showed promise in that department was Megan and maybe Ari. I breathed a sigh of relief. I know one of my half-brothers herds cattle, but there are limits to how far our family similarities should be taken. I’m definitely an office based dog.

Another fun thing this week was my Mistress being asked to do a five-minute interview for one of the dog papers, Our Dogs. She had to answer all sorts of questions like who her fantasy dinner party guests would be and I’m pleased to say her starting point was the four of us, but she added Lassie and Muttley for good measure as well as one or two humans.

  1. Hello Alfie dog,
Glad to hear you are keeping warm and cosy in this cold weather. It’s at this time of the year that I wish I was a dog with more fur, such as yourself. My skin shows through in too many places (being a whippet/staffy cross)
My people have bought me a new coat, but it’s warmer on my back than anywhere else – I need something to cover my belly !
So I am getting a jumper knitted. Mind you this jumper has been on the go for ages and though they keep trying it against me, I am not sure that it’s going to fit. They say that if it doesn’t fit me, my nephew Max will have it. He is one of those white poodley doodley type dogs and already has lots of curly hair to keep him warm.
Anyway, I’m off back under the duvet for a few hours. Tell Megan and Ari good luck and congratulations to your mistress for all the interview type things she’s doing.

    Laila
    xx
