Saturday 24th December 2011 – Santa is packed and ready to fly

I’ve been logging on to NORAD tracks Santa http://www.noradsanta.org/en/ to prove to Ari that it really is happening. It was all very well but I found myself getting caught up playing ‘Elf toss’ and forgot what I was there for. Ari is at that innocent stage of amazement that Santa would take the trouble to visit every little dog around the world. I thought it best not to spoil it by telling him about all the poor abused dogs who may not get anything this Christmas and those that live rough in packs without so much as a human to snuggle up with. He’s a bit young to have to take on the problems of the world just yet.

On condition I didn’t say a word I was allowed to see Aristotle’s Christmas presents

yesterday. You know me. I wouldn’t blab, not to Ari anyway. He’s got some really cool stuff and the best bit is I know he’ll want to share it all with me. We’ve got toys. Not just toys you fetch or play tug with, but the best types of toys that give you food. They are all about initiative and if you get it right you get a treat. We’re made. I’m good at working out anything if there is food to be had and if all else fails you simply apply enough force to get to the food. Job done. Of course that really only applies as a last resort as if you do that the food cannot be restocked.

I can’t believe how warm it is this year. It seems sad not to have snow for Christmas but it does make life easier and there are no broken ribs this year. I’ve been tasked with reminding my mistress to collect the turkey. It’s a fairly safe bet that I will remember where food is concerned. I wouldn’t want to miss out on our turkey now would I? I’m not actually allowed to do the collection for fear the turkey didn’t make it back in one piece, but I am allowed to do the reminding. I’m also allowed to get my Mistress up early tomorrow morning so that she can put it in the oven. I pointed out that getting up early was more Aristotle’s department but apparently at only nearly 14 weeks old he’s not so hot at telling the time yet and we could find ourselves getting up at any hour of day or night.

I’ll even admit to being a little bit excited. It always adds to the excitement having a youngster around in the house. I’ve told Ari so many stories about his presents not coming if he isn’t asleep that he’s said he wants to go to bed at 8pm this evening and he promises not to make a murmur until morning. If nothing else I should have reserved myself an evening of peace and quiet.

  1. Hi Alfie, my new human’s a sucker for a sweet face so I got one of my presents this morning, nah, nah. It’s a set of 3 interlocking rings of rubber to chew on and play tug-of-war. It’s really cool but kind of hard to carry around without falling on your face a few times when the bottom ring gets mixed up with your paws.
