Friday 2nd December 2011 – Walking the plank

Who's been sleeping in my bed?

Between the medication I am now on and playing with Aristotle, I feel like a younger dog. Ari and I played outside for ages yesterday while my Mistress was doing odd bits like giving the car a final wash down before selling it today. I’d forgotten how good it felt to be the big dog and have the little dog run round after you. With the girls I don’t stand a chance. They have absolutely no respect of my position in the household and more often run off with the ball and leave me to watch. With little Ari he does everything I tell him and copies my every move. If he does get the ball I can get it back whenever I want. I have to be careful not to growl too much while we are playing. He hasn’t understood that it is just play growling and he should respond in kind. His reaction is to run away when I do it. He and I are becoming quite a team. I’m hoping when he’s a bit bigger that the two of us might be able to stand up to the girls a bit more instead of getting walked all over.

We had a little practice on the new ramp earlier. Basically the car my Mistress is bringing home today will be much harder for us to get into and out of, so she has bought us a special ramp. It’s a bit like the dog version of walking the plank. Ari said it was ok for him, but then in comparison to his tiny body there is a lot of ramp. Shadow told me not be so soft, but then she’s used to things like that from when she does agility. Megan said that she was planning to just jump in as normal, but she is quite lithe and agile. That just leaves me. I know I can do it, but it’s a wee bit scary at the moment. I’m wondering if my Mistress could help me by either lifting me or letting me sit on the seat so I could have the chair right back and climb into the footwell of the car first, then climb onto the seat. I know I have to overcome my fear as I certainly don’t want to be left behind. That’s the advantage with my little car. It’s really low to the ground so no one needs a ramp. You need a hoist to get the humans out again, but you certainly don’t need a ramp. We haven’t actually sold it yet, so perhaps I could carry on going in that. In a worst case we could attach it to the tow bar of the new one and I could be pulled along behind like a little cart.
