Sunday 18th September 2011 – all quiet on the whelping front

It’s a lazy Sunday morning and Shadow and my Mistress stayed in bed rather longer than usual. Shadow when she did get up has declined breakfast and made herself comfortable by my Mistress’s side. Megan will have Andy for company today as the others are going out. Fortunately they aren’t going too far away, so can be called back in an emergency.

To all the books and websites that tell you with certainty that when a dog’s temperature drops then they will whelp in between 12 and 24 hours, we’d just like to say that they have clearly not met a dog like Shadow and it is perfectly possible for it to be in that range for a couple of days or more before anything starts to happen. We will just have to see whether going off her breakfast is a sign that anything is going to happen today. I did offer to help out by offering to eat her breakfast for her but strangely me Mistress said that would not be necessary.

I’ll update you at lunchtime or sooner if everything begins.
