Tuesday 23rd December 2014 – Strasbourg calling

Shadow and our Mistress drove as far as Strasbourg yesterday. My Mistress was anxious to get there before rush hour. ‘Don’t worry’ my Master said, ‘it’s Christmas week, it won’t be busy.’ However it seems that despite being Christmas week rush hour around Strasbourg is as bad as ever and joining it at 4.15 in the afternoon was not early enough to miss it. Still they got to the hotel ok and after 400 miles of driving were very happy to get out of the car. Shadow is fed up that she can’t go for long walks, but as my Mistress pointed out to her ‘There are dogs out there’ and she doesn’t want them all queuing up outside the hotel asking to be let in. My Mistress explained to her that she can have more of a run around tomorrow when they get to our friend’s house in Switzerland. It shouldn’t take them too long tomorrow so they won’t have to spend all day in the car, for which they are both grateful. Shadow was glad that my Mistress gave up trying to find radio stations playing Christmas music and settled for a talking book instead. She said the English stations were bad enough, but she couldn’t even understand most of the French ones. It didn’t help when my Mistress started singing along to a catchy French song that she could only make out some of the words of!

They haven’t seen any snow yet. Most of the journey the weather has been much too warm for their winter tyres, but I guess that will change tomorrow. There is definitely snow forecast while they are there. Yesterday was dull as my Master went to work. At least he’s going to be around from now on so Ari can go and annoy him instead of me.
