My Mistress is trying to help sort out the import of a puppy from Russia and another from the Czech Republic. I think it’s fair to say she is starting to see puppies before the eyes and that’s before she even gets as far as mating Shadow. You would not believe how complicated some parts of the process are. The worst bit is the charges at Heathrow for simply ‘handling’ an imported puppy and getting it through the process. Bear in mind you cannot shop around as there is only one company doing it and It is probably as much down to what Heathrow are charging them as it is for the actual handling, but it costs more than the flight does. There are companies who do this professionally and who charge what appear to be ridiculous fees, until you see how many costs make it up and then it only seems mildly extortionate. If you aren’t charged for the process of them bringing your luggage to the terminal there really shouldn’t be a charge for them bringing your dog. It would be so much easier if you could just book a seat next to you on the plane for us to sit in. We could walk on with you and walk off with you and be strapped in the same way my harness clips into the seat belt in the car. It just goes to show what a dogist society we live in. I’ll grant you I can see the point of special handling arrangements applying to lions, tigers and tarantulas but not a sixteen week old puppy. If it were not that all being well by then she will be looking after a pregnant dog, my Mistress says she’d quite enjoy driving to the Czech republic and hadn’t realised just how close it is until she looked at the map.
